I know it was the summer of 1978, because my father had taken my younger brothers and me to see the movie “Grease” at the theater nearest to our home on the Jersey Shore.
You're right that my role in the story was in no way to my credit. That said, the point of the story was to celebrate my father's actions. certainly not mine.
I remember spending one Thanksgiving with Billie and Daniel watching a football game because all of my children were guests elsewhere and I would have been alone. He is a very kind man and made me feel comfortable, at ease and able to enjoy the day.

Great memory!
Loved this! Happy Father's Day!!
Well told! I can visualize it all.. xo
I could have sworn you were going to end this post with: "That boy in the car? Oh yeah, he grew up to be Donald Trump."
Extraordinarily unlikely but can't say for certain.
Hope your dad reads this!

Thanks Wenonah!
Beautiful story well told.
I just read your story aloud to my 12 year daughter. Then we sat next to each other and I was hugging her. And we decided to watch “Grease” together.
That means so much to me! Thanks for sharing that Natalia.
David, this short piece of yours has given birth to ideas in my head for many more articles. Thanks! (You can take some credit when they come out).
